The final homepage designs for ED.gov mocked up on mobile and laptop devices

Re-imagining the Department of Education's web ecosystem, to create a more connected, accessible and extensible web experience for American citizens.
‍‍

The United States Web Design System (USWDS) was integrated early in the design process in the manner it was intended; as a bootstrap framework for creating accessible and extensible government websites. The design solution adopted all of the structure, and none of the out-of-the-box styles of the USWDS, allowing for a freer exploration of a brand and UI direction that is uniquely ED's. This work was completed over two phases of work; a Challenge.gov submission in 2020 in which U.Group took the top prize, and as part of a comprehensive strategy engagement in Q1 2021 to kick-off a 5-year plan to overhaul, modernize and migrate the whole of the Department of Education web system.
